Use ENERGY STAR-labeled Servers

What Is It?

ENERGY STAR-labeled computer servers consume less energy and generate far less heat. These servers achieve greater efficiency over their conventional counterparts by using advanced power management features, which reduce energy consumption according to various utilization levels, as well as during idle time. Other features include limited power conversion loss, improved power quality, and the ability to measure real-time power use.

Benefits

ENERGY STAR servers use an average of 26% less electricity during use and 54% less during idle when compared to older models. In general, servers need to be stored in a cooled area in order to prevent overheating or limit performance. Because ENERGY STAR servers generate less heat, they also save on cooling costs. The energy savings from using less electricity and generating less heat could save $480 to $1440 over the lifetime of the server as well as prevent one to three tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
