Implement an Energy Management Plan

What Is It?

Energy management plans are roadmaps designed specifically to maximize a building’s productivity while minimizing its energy use. Implementing such plans can help organizations reach their goals for reducing energy consumption while simultaneously achieving cost savings. Most plans will include measures to improve energy efficiency, such as changing light fixtures, appliances, and the heating/cooling systems of buildings. Progress in the plan is tracked to allow for reevaluation and implementation of dynamic goals.

Process:

  1. Assess: Use an assessment tool such as UMass Lowell’s Energy Management Assessment
  2. Commit: Draft Energy Policy and engage executive mangement
  3. Plan: Organize a team, identify opportunities and create action plan
  4. Implement: Track and report employee and tenant engagement
  5. Capitalize: Market success and communicate with tenants or building owner

Benefits

Energy management plans help identify various cost effective options for energy production and consumption. Plans may examine the potential for purchasing renewable energy as well as on-site production possibilities, or outline consumption strategies for businesses to control energy costs.
