Offset Fleet and Business Travel Emissions

What Is It?

Carbon offsets represent the reduction of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gas emissions that are used to compensate for, or “offset,” greenhouse emissions elsewhere, including from vehicle fleets. Carbon offsets can come from a range of sources, such as renewable energy, methane capture and use, reforestation, and increased energy efficiency. While there are currently no laws in the United States regulating what is and what is not a carbon offset, several organizations offer certification programs that seek to maximize their quality and integrity.

Benefits

The purchase of a carbon offset, generally traded in one-ton increments, is said to reduce the purchaser’s carbon footprint by an equivalent amount. In addition to lowering your organization’s carbon footprint, carbon offset purchases promote renewable energy and other carbon reduction activities. Certified carbon offsets are sold at many retail outlets and may be customized to meet your specific requirements or preferences. Carbon offsets may be tax deductible if purchased by a 501(c)3 organization.
