Join a Transportation Management Association

What Is It?

TMAs provide commuter services to employees of member companies. Commuter services offered by TMAs may include incentives to take transit, carpool, vanpool, telework, bike and walk to work. TMAs also provide real time travel information, guaranteed ride home programs, and fun, rewarding events and incentives to encourage commuters to leave their cars at home.

Benefits

By joining a TMA, businesses help employees identify and use alternatives to driving alone to get to and from work. Commuters benefit from lower travel costs, lower car maintenance and repair costs, and often healthier habits, less stress, and increased productivity. Businesses benefit by having a more attractive set of benefits for recruiting and retaining employees, saving money on parking facilities, and often a more satisfied set of workers. Because TMAs help reduce vehicle miles traveled, local communities benefit from improved local air quality, reduced congestion, increased mobility for people, goods, and services, and a more robust public transportation infrastructure.

Commuter services programs provided by TMAs:

  • Guaranteed/Emergency Ride Home
  • Ride Matching
  • Bicycle/Pedestrian Incentives
  • Vanpool Subsidies
  • Carpool Subsidies
  • Transit Subsidies
  • ZipCar Discounts

Financing Options, Incentives, and Rebates

  • Membership fees to TMAs vary and are often scaled according to the number of employees in the applying company
