What Is It?
“Green power” (renewable energy) is energy derived from natural resources that replenish themselves over a much shorter timescale than fossil fuels. These resources include the sun, wind, moving water, organic plant and waste material (biomass), and the earth’s heat (geothermal). With certain types of electricity generation (solar, wind, tidal), the sources of energy are infinite with respect to human existence.
Benefits
Renewable energy can be used to generate electricity as well as for other applications like heating and fuel. Green power lessens the environmental impact of electricity generation by reducing demand for fossil fuel production. By purchasing green power, a business can protect itself from the volatile markets of fossil fuel prices while supporting a growing industry that is fundamental to the continued inhabitance of Earth. From a CSR perspective, green power production can support the regional economy and demonstrate civic leadership.
