A Better City is a diverse group of business leaders united around a common goal — to enhance Boston and the region’s economic health, competitiveness, vibrancy, sustainability and quality of life. With 130 member companies across multiple sectors, A Better City operates between the private and public sectors using technical expertise and research capabilities to shape key policies, projects and initiatives.

The Barr Foundation is committed to helping Boston and Massachusetts meet or exceed their 2020 and 2050 targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The Barr Foundation supported the development and growth of the Challenge for Sustainability, the predecessor to the Sustainable Buildings Initiative.

Partner: City of Boston Environment Department

City of Boston logo square for webThe City of Boston’s Environment Department aims to protect the city’s built and natural resources, as well as provide information on environmental issues affecting Boston. In July 2014, the City of Boston and A Better City established a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the roles and responsibilities for the City and ABC relating to the implementation and support of commercial real estate, energy, conservation and greenhouse gas reduction programs. The MOU establishes a framework for further collaboration to support the sustainability and economic competitiveness of the city.
